MONGO AT MONTREUX (1971) showcases the conga legend’s explosive performance at the famous jazz festival. He and his band deliver a percussive set featuring Afro-Cuban reimaginings of The Temptations’ “Cloud Nine” and his own hit “I Wanna Know.” His Havana roots anchor the traditional “Comé Candela” and the rhythmic tour de force “Conversation In Drums.” The show reaches peak frenzy with “Watermelon Man,” a song written by Herbie Hancock that became a Top 10 hit for Santamaria in 1963.
Quadraphonic sound, or 4.0 surround sound, utilizes four audio channels connected to four speakers positioned at the corners of a listening space. The multi-tracked audio is mixed dimensional, immersing the listener in an expansive soundscape.
